Anise Star (Illicium verum)
Location: Anise star is found in southeast China and Vietnam.
Extraction: It is steam distilled from the seeds.
Colour and Odour: The oil is clear with a hint of yellow. It has a very anisic aroma with sweet undertones.
Description: Anise star is an evergreen tree growing up to 9 metres tall with a slender white trunk, yellow flowers and star shaped fruits.
Background: Anise star has long been used by the Chinese in cooking and medicine.
Properties: Stimulant, expectorant, diuretic, antispasmodic and tonic.
Uses
Digestive System-Helpful for flatulent, colic and the gripe-like pains of indigestion.
Urinary System-Promotes the flow of urine.
Respiratory System-Very useful for respiratory problems including bronchitis, and also for spasmodic problems such as dry irritable coughs.
