Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare)
Location: Fennel is found all over the Mediterranean region and it is cultivated in Bulgaria, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Spain and North Africa.
Extraction: Steam distilled from the seeds.
Colour and Odour: The essential oil is colourless and has a very sweet, and warm, anise aroma.
Description: A herb growing up to 1.2 metres tall with bright green, feathery leaves and golden yellow flowers. Found mainly on limestone soil, especially near the sea.
Background: Known to the early Greeks and Romans and grown in Europeans a popular vegetable often eaten with fish. Fennel is one of the main constituents of babies gripe water.<p>
Properties: Carminative, diuretic, stimulant, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory.
Uses
Digestive System- An excellent digestive remedy for indigestion and flatulence.
